KUALA LUMPUR – Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah is mulling opening up walk-in inoculations for the AstraZeneca vaccine.

In a Twitter post asking netizens for their feedback, Dr Noor Hisham suggested the idea would not require those wanting to get vaccinated to wait their turn according to phases set by the government.

“Perhaps we should open a walk-in for AZ (AstraZeneca) vaccine. No need to wait. What do you think?”

Dr Noor Hisham was responding to a post by a Twitter user @Hunteress197.

The user had retweeted an infographic on the low risk of blood clots involving the AstraZeneca vaccine posted by Dr Noor Hisham, as the complication only occurs in four out of one million vaccinations.

“There is no perfect medicine. Because humans created it. If nobody want(s), I want it. I’ll take the risk coz I’ve done it before,” the user tweeted.

“My current medicine had the potential to damage my liver, but still I took it to slow down aggressive destruction of my lungs.”

Several users applauded Dr Noor Hisham’s idea, saying they would like to take part in the walk-ins.

“Please announce the details, sir. I want to cut the ’Q’ the halal way,” a user named Syafiq said.

Another user, Billy Yau Ming Kong said: “YES Tan Sri , I will be the first in line! We need to vaccinate fast and furious. There is no time to have a discourse or Town Hall with everyone Pls do it!!!”

Another Twitter user, Pravin Snow, said he would volunteer to be first in line. “Yes please! I’ll be the first person to queue up.”

While most users welcomed the idea, others appeared more sceptical.

@MYcaveman told Dr Noor Hisham there were nine million registered users waiting to be vaccinated.

“Why do we need to wait for those not willing to sign up? 300k AZ is not even enough.” – The Vibes, April 27, 2021
