KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia’s daily Covid-19 cases have breached 3,000 – a first in three months – with 3,142 infections logged today.
The last time the tally was above 3,000 was on February 13, when 3,499 cases were logged.
The country also registered another 15 coronavirus fatalities.
The latest figures take overall infections and deaths to 401,593 and 1,477, respectively.
Selangor has the most new cases at 1,019, followed by Kelantan (523), Kuala Lumpur (440) and Sarawak (416).
Johor recorded 194 infections, followed by Kedah (120), Penang (98), Sabah (87), Perak (69), Negri Sembilan (61) and Melaka (42).
Terengganu saw 40 cases, Pahang (15), Putrajaya (13), Labuan (4) and Perlis (1).
Only five cases today were related to detention centres, consisting of the Pagar Sri Lalang cluster (3 cases) and the Tembok Pengkalan cluster (2).
The country has seen a total of 1,626 clusters to date, including 12 new clusters today.
Clusters that have ended stand at 1,256, including nine today; they are the Layar, Emas Bemban, Pengkalan Nangka Tumpat, Perindustrian Pekan Nanas, Chendering Height, Kemuning Enam, Hilir Sungai Kluang, Sungai Putus, and Tembok Bukit Besi clusters.
A total of 370 clusters remain active, with 68 clusters showing new cases. The active clusters with the highest number of new cases are the Pulai Chondong (66 cases), Pintu Air Relau (30), and Layar Hujung (22) clusters.
Dr Noor Hisham said four clusters were related to schools or higher learning institutions; four were from the community; two in workplaces; one from a high-risk group; and another from religious activities.
Sarawak recorded the Melugu cluster in Sri Aman which involves an education institution with 13 cases and the Ulu Strass cluster in Meradong with 25 cases. Sabah recorded the Madai cluster in Lahad Datu and Kunak involving a school in Kg Badai with 30 cases.
Kedah logged the Layar Hujung cluster in Kuala Muda involving students and staff at an education institution in Sungai Petani with 23 cases, while the Pintu Air Relau cluster in Bandar Baru and Kota Setar saw 31 cases.
In Perak, the Jalan Maharajalela cluster was recorded in Hilir Perak and Kuala Muda. Johor detected the Taman Wira cluster in Kluang, Batu Pahat, and Kulai with 26 cases, and the Jalan Bakariah cluster in Muar with 40 cases.
In Selangor, the Jalan Sekinchan cluster in Klang had 23 cases, and the Lebuh Gambus cluster in Klang had 61 cases. The Jalan Gombak Dua cluster was recorded in Hulu Langat, while the Titiwangsa district cluster in Putrajaya saw 19 cases. Meanwhile, Kuala Lumpur logged the Jalan Rimbunan cluster in Kepong and Gombak with 22 cases, as well as a cluster in Cheras with 12 cases. – The Vibes, April 28, 2021
