SINGAPORE – A 30-year-old Malaysian man, who is a Singapore permanent resident, is among the 16 new cases of locally transmitted Covid-19 infections reported in the republic yesterday.
The patient is a doctor at Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH), and among the nine linked to Case No. 62,541, a nurse confirmed positive for the coronavirus three days ago.
The man, labelled Case No. 62,557, received his first Covid-19 vaccine dose on January 18 and the second on February 8, said the Health Ministry in its report last night.
It said of the nine cases linked to TTSH, three are hospital staff and the rest patients.
“Epidemiological investigations and contact-tracing are ongoing. In the meantime, we have put in place precautionary measures to ring-fence the cases.”
The ministry said two wards at TTSH have been locked down, while no visitors are allowed except for critically ill patients starting yesterday.
“During this period, elective cases will be deferred except for urgent ones. And, accident and emergency cases that are non-life-threatening will be redirected to other hospitals.”
Singapore logged 35 new coronavirus infections yesterday, bringing its total to 61,121.
The 16 new locally transmitted cases are the highest number of community infections since last July.
The republic has registered eight Covid-19 clusters. – Bernama, April 30, 2021
