KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysians have been urged to follow all health standard operating procedures wherever they are, following two days of more than 3,000 daily Covid-19 cases.
In a statement released today, Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah called on Malaysians to strictly adhere to the SOPs, especially at Ramadan bazaars, schools and public events, such as buka puasa and kenduri ceremonies.
“Don’t lose your focus and stay vigilant for the sake of your health and safety, and that of your family and community as the pandemic will threaten the national economy and the people’s socio-economic well-being.”
“We have to be disciplined in following the guidelines set out by the government to avoid the Covid-19 resurgence as seen in South Asian and European countries.”
His Majesty also voiced concerns over the closing of a number of schools across the country and the less-than-satisfactory SOP adherence at Ramadan bazaars and public events.
“Another worrying factor are reports on the shortage of beds in private hospitals in the Klang Valley, as more Covid-19 cases have been recorded over the past two weeks.
“The Health Ministry has reported that more than 3,000 daily cases can be expected after Hari Raya Aidilfitri as SOP adherence remains low and that will inflate the infectivity rate.”
The ruler urged those exhibiting Covid-19 symptoms to carry out their social responsibility by getting treatment and observing self-quarantine if they test positive or have came into close contact with those who are, despite being asymptomatic.
“Malaysians need to be honest with themselves by observing quarantine and SOP. I am confident that we can stem the spread of Covid-19 with cooperation and high commitment by the people and the government.”
