KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia saw a drop of almost 1,000 Covid-19 cases today to 2,500, from yesterday’s count of 3,418.
According to the Health Ministry, this takes the cumulative tally to 417,512.
However, a high of 18 fatalities were also recorded today.
Selangor logged the most infections with 637, followed by Kelantan (401), Sarawak (356), Johor (205), Penang (194), Kuala Lumpur (200) and Kedah (103).
States that saw fewer than 100 cases are Negri Sembilan (97), Melaka (95), Perak (59), Sabah (57), Pahang (55), Terengganu (38) and Putrajaya (3).
Labuan and Perlis recorded no new cases in the past 24 hours.
All the deceased were locals, except one 49-year-old female who succumbed to the virus at Hospital Sultanah Aminah, Johor Baru.
Currently, there are 352 cases in intensive care, with 186 requiring ventilator support.
As for clusters, 398 remain active, including nine new ones identified today.
Three of the clusters involve the community, two involve learning institutions, one involves a detention centre, and three concern worksites.
The Lorong Galing cluster in Pahang was identified after a screening, finding 13 infections.
As for the Jalan Dahlia Lima cluster in Melaka, also identified after a screening in central Melaka, 11 cases were detected.
The Bunga Raya cluster involving Kuala Muda and Kulim in Kedah registered 10 infections.
The Mahkota2 Industy cluster, which involves a worksite in Kuala Langat, Selangor, recorded 121 cases after targeted screening of construction workers.
Meanwhile, the Jalan Jati Industy cluster in Kota Tinggi and Johor Baru involving factory workers saw `26 infections after a screening.
As for the Tok Has cluster involving a restaurant in Terengganu, 29 cases were identified.
The Jalan Bandar and Indera Mahkota clusters in Johor and Pahang respectively, involves education institutions. After screening close contacts of positive patients, 34 cases were registered.
The Jalan Meru Utama cluster in Perak, involving a detention centre, recorded 40 infections after a targeted screening of detainees. – The Vibes, May 3, 2021
