KUALA LUMPUR – The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has submitted its investigation papers (IP) over alleged power abuse within Prasarana Malaysia Bhd to the Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC).
MACC chief commissioner Datuk Seri Azam Baki was quoted by The Malaysian Reserve as saying the findings were submitted two weeks ago and the anti-graft body is now awaiting feedback from the AGC.
He said most of the cases implicate a particular individual, but stopped short of mentioning any names.
This latest development comes following months-long tension between Prasarana chairman Datuk Seri Tajuddin Abdul Rahman and its former CEO, Muhammad Nizam Alias, whose service was terminated in February.
“Let us wait for the AGC to study the case and decide the next course of action,” Azam said when met after the launch of a joint anti-corruption programme with the National Culture and Arts Department here yesterday.
“Most of the cases involve elements of power abuse under Section 23 of the MACC Act 2009.”
Azam said the MACC has recorded statements from several individuals to assist in the investigations, but did not divulge details.
He also dismissed allegations that the probe was initiated based on media reports, saying it was instead done following reports from members of the public.
On January 4, the MACC had confirmed launching a probe into Prasarana after visiting its headquarters in Bangsar, here, while the company assured it would give its full cooperation in the investigation.
This comes after Tajuddin “sought the termination of contractors of the transport-oriented development at the Dang Wangi light rail transit station, with Prasarana looking to play a more prominent role in the project and eventually move its office to the new development”.
It was also previously reported that Tajuddin had exerted his duty as chairman by asking the board to terminate an ongoing transit-oriented development in Dang Wangi, in which Tajuddin’s family has interest in.
Tajuddin has already denied all these allegations.
