KUALA LUMPUR – The Kuala Lumpur wholesale market in Selayang has been ordered to close from today to May 16, according to a notice issued by the Kuala Lumpur City Hall.

While the notice did not state the reason for closure, Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi said his ministry will step up the monitoring of product supplies following the closure.

His ministry will ensure adequate supply of goods, and that prices are not affected by the Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration, he was quoted as saying by Bernama.

The market is on the Hotspots Identification for Dynamic Engagement list as a potential Covid-19 hotspot. Putrajaya has instructed the premises on the list to close for three days until May 11.

Previously, City Hall closed the fish section of the market due to several Covid-19 cases, involving operators and workers. – The Vibes, May 9, 2021
