GEORGE TOWN – PKR is calling for a cabinet reshuffle to better manage the Covid-19 crisis.
The opposition party said the fact that the country is now under its third movement control order in just 15 months proves that the current leadership is struggling in its fight against the pandemic.
PKR strategic planning director Sim Tze Tzin said Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin should focus on two ministries that have failed to stem the surge of infections and ease the burden of the people suffering from the adverse effects of the crisis.
The two ministries are the International Trade and Industry Ministry led by Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali and Housing and Local Government Ministry led by Datuk Zuraida Kamaruddin.
“They (Azmin and Zuraida) need to be transferred to other ministries as they have let millions of Malaysians down with their sub-par performance,” said Sim.
“The average person, who must toil for a living, is now suffering more setbacks because policymakers cannot find a formula to mitigate the crisis.
“To make matters worse, there are now accusations of disagreements and flip-flops within the government.
“The statistics are there for all to see. If we combine the construction and manufacturing sectors, they account for some 60% of total infections in the country.
“Both economic sectors come under either Azmin or Zuraida. We need to change the leaders if they cannot deliver.”
It is nothing personal, Sim said, adding that a reshuffle may do the country good as it rejuvenates the government to improve their handling of the Covid-19 crisis.
“There are 70 ministers and deputy ministers in Muhyiddin’s cabinet; surely, they can find someone to replace both Azmin and Zuraida.” – The Vibes, May 10, 2021
