KUALA LUMPUR – Travellers entering Malaysia from Singapore through the Periodic Commuting Arrangement scheme will have to observe a mandatory 14-day quarantine in locations listed by Malaysia from Thursday.
The reciprocal green lane is also temporarily suspended starting May 13. Instead, business travellers from the republic are required to use the one-stop centre channel prepared by the Malaysian Investment Development Authority.
This comes after Singapore is listed as one of the countries reporting the spread of three variants of concern and one variant of interest of Covid-19.
Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah in a statement said the National Security Council made the move after the republic reported cases involving the South African variant B.1.351, UK variant B.1.1.7, Brazil variant B.1.1.28 (P1), and variant of interest B.1.617.1 from India.
He said travellers from Singapore will have to comply with the same standard operating procedures imposed on inbound travellers from countries that record Covid-19 variants of concern in their communities.
The Health Ministry will be updating the list of countries from time to time. – The Vibes, May 10, 2021
