KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia Airlines Bhd (MAB) will fly home over 1,000 students of local institutions of higher learning this Hari Raya Aidilfitri.

Beside the routes connecting Kuala Lumpur, Kota Kinabalu and Kuching, the national carrier will also have East Malaysian students travelling between Labuan and Bintulu, Kuching, Miri and Sibu.

In a statement today, MAB said it will operate at full capacity over the next two days for flights to three Sarawak cities, namely Miri, Sibu and Bintulu.

The students will take charter and commercial flights.

The National Security Council recently gave the green light for tertiary students to return home during the festive period, and MAB has been working with varsities and the authorities to organise trips.

“Aidilfitri is a time when families reunite, and this year, with the challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic, we are working closely with the relevant authorities to ensure safe and secure travel for these students, some of whom have not been home for more than a year,” said group chief executive Captain Izham Ismail.

Last week, the airline flew 160 Maktab Rendah Sains Mara Langkawi students home via a specially chartered Boeing 737-800.

For its Aidilfitri “mission”, MAB is offering a discount of up to 30% for flights booked through MHexplorer, the airline’s student travel programme.

Students can sign up for the programme here. – The Vibes, May 11, 2021
