GEORGE TOWN – The Consumers’ Association of Penang (CAP) has called on Malaysians to stop the practice of buying goods daily.

The elderly, especially, should stop going to the market every day, given the worrying Covid-19 situation.

CAP education officer N.V. Subbarow said the sight of senior citizens and children in crowded markets and supermarkets is not a good thing.

“Consumers should plan their grocery shopping, and go to such places only once every three or four days,” he said in a statement.

“CAP believes that Covid-19 incidents are likely to decrease if consumers reduce daily visits to markets and supermarkets, and stop this daily buying culture.

“Otherwise, we will have over 5,000 Covid-19 cases daily.”

He said the cooperation of all consumers is vital in battling the coronavirus.

He also warned people to be prepared for a shortage of hospital beds, with news outlets reporting that maximum capacity has been reached in seven states.

“We need to protect ourselves and our families.” – The Vibes, May 14, 2021
