KUALA LUMPUR - A Selangor assemblywoman has taken the federal government to task for not providing the state government access to detailed information prior to the implementation of the impending conditional movement control order (CMCO).
Bandar Utama assemblywoman, Jamaliah Jamaluddin, said the decision did not only affect the state assembly, but had also blindsided Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari as it was made with no prior indication given to the state government.
Jamaliah drew parallels with the starting phase of the first movement control order (MCO) in March earlier this year, where five states under the Pakatan Harapan (PH) administration were not invited to a key meeting without any reason, despite Selangor experiencing a higher spike in Covid-19 cases then, compared to other states.
"So too was the situation when the CMCO was announced for Klang a few days ago. It was made without prior consultation with the Selangor state government. We were not informed of any details regarding affected areas," she said in a statement posted in Facebook today.
She said her fellow state assemblymen were left in a state of confusion as clear information was not provided by the federal authorities
She added, while she fully supported efforts to lower Covid-19 transmissions, this did not mean giving blind support to orders given without logic and sense.
"As a government, we are responsible not only for solving problems but solving them in the most effective, efficient, fast, and most importantly, professional manner possible," she said
Jamaliah said currently, the only areas (Covid red zones) in Selangor that warrant concern are Klang, Gombak, Hulu Langat part of Petaling.
"Blanket CMCO implemented on areas still in the Green Zone this is bound to cause economic problems," she added. - The Vibes, October 13, 2020.
