PORT DICKSON – PAS has denied claims that two of its MPs are among those in a list of lawmakers purportedly backing PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim as the country’s next prime minister.

The Islamist party’s deputy president, Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man, said PAS fully supports Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin as prime minister, but at the same time, it is ready to face a possible change of government.

“As a country that practises democracy, all parties have rights under the constitution, but with the current Covid-19 situation, that (change of government) should be set aside,” he told reporters at Pantai Cermin here today.

“The economy has yet to recover, and the rakyat are under stress. Our priority should be matters that involve the people’s interests instead of never-ending political issues.”

The environment and water minister said PAS is adopting a “wait and see” approach with regard to Anwar’s audience with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong this morning, where the opposition leader is believed to have shown the king evidence that he has the numbers to form a new government.

“What’s for sure is that all 18 PAS MPs are solidly behind the prime minister (Muhyiddin).”
