PENANG DAP is unperturbed by claims from PAS Information head Ahmad Fadhli Shaari that all states in the peninsula will fall to the political pact of Barisan Nasional (BN) - Perikatan Nasional (PN) in the next general election.
State DAP chairman Steven Sim Chee Keong told a DAP gathering that PAS is entitled to its own rhetoric, but it is untrue that the ruling federal coalition of Pakatan Harapan (PH) is on the verge of collapse.
Rather, Sim said that PH was consolidating and learning from its past mistakes to face a new Malay-centric pact of BN-PN, which is dominant on the Malay ground.
"Remarks from the Opposition (PAS) reflect overconfidence following victories in Johor and Negri Sembilan. They are winning now, and they are confident and have become arrogant. My answer to them is simple - let them remain arrogant," said Sim.
Sim said this at the DAP's Tanjung 40th anniversary gathering in the Chinese Town Hall.
The anniversary was to mark DAP founding member Tan Sri Lim Kit Siang's victory in the Tanjong Parliament seat in 1986 when he defeated former state chief minister the late Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu, leading the way for DAP to cement its political hold in the state.
Ahmad Fadhli was quoted as saying that PH is on the brink of a split-up following the landmark outcome in the two-state elections.
He made this observation because PKR is considerably weakened after its former deputy president, Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli, quit the coalition; Amanah cannot gain any worthwhile support, whereas DAP is embroiled in an internal squabble, which may lead to the socialist party quitting the national unity federal government soon.
Sim said PH remains focused on defending Penang and would not respond to mere rhetoric.
At the gathering, Penang DAP leaders rallied their members despite the loss of party secretary-general Anthony Loke Siew Fook in the Negri Sembilan election. - August 3, 2026.
