KUALA LUMPUR – The eviction of the Mah Meri Orang Asli in Bagan Lalang will be put on hold until a solution is found.
Sg Pelek assemblyman Ronnie Liu said his office has informed state-linked Permodalan Negeri Selangor Berhad’s (PNSB) CEO to temporarily halt the enforcement of the eviction notice.
As to whether he will pursue the option of allowing the Orang Asli to continue occupying the land, Liu told The Vibes via a text message that the situation is complicated, but all possibilities are being explored.
He added that PNSB is the current landowner.
In a statement yesterday, PNSB said it sent out the eviction notices with the intention of informing the Orang Asli of the position of their structures, which it called an encroachment on the company’s land.
PNSB added that it had received a letter from the village leader of the nearby Kg Orang Asli Bukit Bangkong for an extension of time to clear out Kg Orang Asli Bagan Lalang.
PNSB also said it is open to negotiating and considering the extension.
Last month, The Vibes reported that the Mah Meri tribe in the village received eviction notices.
Upon visiting the village, it was confirmed that PNSB and the Sepang Land Office sent the notices on April 20, asking the residents to clear out the land and destroy the structures there, within 30 days. – The Vibes, May 15, 2021
