M’sian child among Singapore’s new Covid-19 cases

SINGAPORE – A 7-year-old Malaysian is one of two new Covid-19 cases linked to a fresh cluster here, said the republic’s Health Ministry.

The Yuhua Primary School pupil last attended in-person classes on Friday, said the ministry in its full report released last night.

A family member of the child, a 36-year-old Malaysian cook at Spring Court Restaurant, is linked to the same cluster.

The coronavirus test results for both returned positive on Monday.

The cluster’s index case is a 64-year-old female Singaporean permanent resident, who tested positive on Saturday. The two Malaysians are her household contacts.

Two other Malaysians are linked to the Changi airport Terminal 3 cluster, which has 87 infections.

One of them is a 36-year-old woman who tested preliminarily positive for the B.1.617 variant, pending further confirmation tests.

Singapore yesterday reported 11 “unlinked” cases, including another two Malaysians.

The country, which has tightened health safety measures, has recorded a total of 61,651 Covid-19 cases, with 19 “open” clusters currently.

There are 220 patients still in hospital, five of whom are in intensive care. – Bernama, May 19, 2021
