KOTA KINABALU – Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) remains loyal to the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) coalition after speculation that it will ally itself with opposition party Warisan.
PBS vice-president Datuk Johnny Mositun said the rumours were nothing new as many have alleged the party will join Warisan to form a new state government after the state election last year.
“PBS’ stand is that we will continue to be in GRS, to work with the component parties to develop the state.
“In politics, people can say anything, but we stand solidly behind PBS president Datuk Seri Maximus Ongkili as well as support(ing) the leadership of Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Mohd Noor and Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.”
Mositun was responding after Sabah Barisan Nasional chairman Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin assured that PBS will remain in GRS as all component parties have sealed an agreement.
Mositun acknowledged that there are grievances among the party leaders and members.
“But this doesn’t mean we have to destroy the relationship with GRS leaders. However, all must keep in mind that everyone has a role to play and extend assistance as and when it is needed.”
Rumours of a Warisan takeover surfaced earlier this week after an audio clip went viral alleging PBS and Warisan may merge to oust the GRS state government.
This comes after former chief minister and Warisan president Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal and Ongkili expressed interest in working together.
