KOTA KINABALU – The ruling Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) coalition has no issues working with the opposition provided the cooperation is apolitical, said Sabah Barisan Nasional chairman Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin.
Bung Moktar was reacting to talks of a power shift in the state’s administration arising from Warisan and Parti Bersatu Sabah’s (PBS) cooperation.
The Sabah Umno chief said the cooperation between the two parties had been heavily misinterpreted.
Bung Moktar said the cooperation that PBS president Datuk Seri Maximus Ongkili had referred to was on “developing Sabah”, and was nothing political.
The Sabah deputy chief minister however said although the GRS government was in power, it did not mean they were closing their doors to suggestions from opposition leaders.
“Not just PBS, but GRS, which comprises BN, Umno, and other parties, are ready to cooperate with the opposition, which includes exchanging ideas and developing the state and the well-being of the people,” he said.
Rumours of a Warisan takeover surfaced earlier this week after an audio clip went viral claiming PBS and Warisan may merge to oust the GRS state government.
This comes after former chief minister and Warisan president Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal and Ongkili expressed interest in working together.
Bung Moktar said there will be no power shift as all GRS component parties have sealed an agreement to avoid such an incident.
GRS comprises Perikatan Nasional, Barisan Nasional, and PBS. – The Vibes, May 19, 2021
