GEORGE TOWN – The mother of murdered teenager T. Nhaveen has lodged four fresh police reports today in her bid to seek a reinvestigation despite criminal court proceedings now taking place against four suspects here.
D. Shanti, 47, through her newly appointed lawyer Rajesh Nagaraju, is seeking a fresh investigation as the one that concluded in 2017 was allegedly incomplete.
Police investigations had then determined that four teenagers were involved in the brutal assault of bespectacled Nhaveen, who died from blows to his head.
Rajesh said among the discrepancies found by lawyers were that in the initial report, a driver had rushed the dying Nhaveen to Penang Hospital.
“In the probe, there is no mention of why the driver was not questioned by the police. Also, the driver could possibly be part of the group who allegedly assaulted Nhaveen.”
Rajesh said he hopes that police will initiate another investigation, as there is a possibility that more suspects might be involved other than the four standing trial.
The case before high court judicial commissioner Mohd Radzi Abdul Hamid is scheduled to continue June 29 and 30 with more witnesses, including doctors, listed to testify.
Earlier, a team of volunteers who wanted to assist Shanti in seeking justice for her son had helped lawyers lodge the reports.
Her spokesman Arun Dorasamy said the police report by Nhaveen’s childhood friend T. Previin, who was also beaten up by the alleged bullies in the same incident, was also incomplete. Previin had survived the ordeal.
“No follow-ups were made to his (Previin) report,” said Arun.
J. Ragesuthen and S. Gokulan, both 18, along with two others, one aged 17 and another who turned 18 in July 2017, were charged with murdering Nhaveen between 11pm and midnight on June 9, 2017, near the Karpal Singh Learning Centre in Jalan Kaki Bukit, Bukit Gelugor.
They were charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which carries the mandatory death sentence upon conviction. – The Vibes, May 22, 2021
