KUCHING – More than 95% of the 149 new Covid-19 cases in the district today involve the movement of people during the Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration last week.

The Sarawak Disaster Management Committee in a statement today said the high number of cases in Kuching comprised those detected to have had contact with Covid-19 cases, with most of them being family members.

The state had decided that the Hari Raya celebration be allowed only on the first day, with the presence of only closest family members.

Sarawak logged 749 fresh infections today, bringing the total caseload to 41,620 in the state.

The committee has also implemented the enhanced movement control order (EMCO) at the Keli longhouse from today until June 7, and extended the EMCO at Jugo anak Gait longhouse until May 26. Both longhouses are in Sarikei. – Bernama, May 22, 2021
