MELAKA – State police yesterday recorded a statement from the management of a factory in the Ayer Keroh industrial area, in connection with a video of individuals, believed to be the facility’s workers, wearing the pink quarantine wristband violating the Covid-19 isolation order.
Melaka Tengah district police chief Afzanizar Ahmad, in a statement, said the clip showed several men, believed to be foreigners, leaving their homes to buy groceries in Taman Ayer Keroh Heights here.
“Police received a report relating to the video, which went viral on WhatsApp, about 1.50pm yesterday (Monday). Based on the recording, it is believed that there has been a violation of the standard operating procedure.
“Therefore, the human resources manager of the factory was called to the Melaka Tengah district police headquarters to record a statement and provide details on the employees allegedly involved.”
He said initial investigations found that the people in the clip are workers at the factory who were recently ordered to wear the wristband as they were in the process of being returned to their hostels to undergo quarantine.
The case is being investigated under the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (Measures Within Infected Local Areas) (Movement Control) Regulations 2021, he said.
Afzanizar urged the public, especially those placed under coronavirus quarantine, to comply with the rules. – Bernama, May 26, 2021
