KUALA LUMPUR – It is easier to address the media in a press conference with just a face shield, said Prasarana Malaysia Bhd chairman Datuk Seri Tajuddin Abdul Rahman, following a police investigation into his SOP violation.
The Pasir Salak MP also confirmed to Free Malaysia Today that police will be calling him up for questioning.
“I was told the face shield was good enough,” he was quoted as saying.
He added that he decided to wear a face shield as it would be easier for media personnel to hear him.
“I am sorry if the face shield was not good enough,” he told FMT.
“The shield is not an ordinary shield, (it was) specially ordered from a reliable source.”
Earlier today, Dang Wangi district police chief Mohamad Zainal Abdullah said an investigation has been launched after a video of Tajuddin went viral.
Tajuddin was filmed wearing a face shield but not a mask, which is a violation of the law, during a press conference at the collision site near the KLCC LRT station here.
“Dang Wangi police have conducted an investigation under Section 21A of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act (Act 342) and the regulations related to it,” said Zainal.
“Those involved in the case will be called up to the Dang Wangi district police headquarters to give their statements in the near future. An investigation paper will be submitted to the public prosecutor’s office after investigations are completed.”
On Saturday, Senior Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said masks must be worn in public spaces, even if an individual wears the niqab or a face shield.
Under Act 342, he said, it is compulsory to wear a mask in public places.
