[UPDATED] Covid-19: record-high 7,478 new cases, 63 deaths today

KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia records its highest number of daily Covid-19 cases so far at 7,478 today, up from the 7,289 infections yesterday.

The national coronavirus caseload now stands at 533,367. Of the fresh infections today, only five are imported.

The country also logged the highest number of deaths at 63, bringing the fatality toll to 2,432. Of the deaths today, six are non-citizens.

The Health Ministry said 756 patients are in intensive care, while 377 require ventilators.

The 4,665 recoveries today add to the 464,727 recoveries nationwide.

Selangor, again, logged the most cases with 2,455, followed by Kuala Lumpur (760), Sarawak (640), Johor (587), Kelantan (547), Kedah (542), Penang (420) and Negri Sembilan (370).

States that have fewer than 300 cases are Perak (264), Melaka (230), Sabah (229), Terengganu (177), Pahang (171), Labuan (49), Putrajaya (29) and Perlis (8).

Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the 63 fatalities today comprise 24 in Selangor, nine in Kuala Lumpur, eight each in Kedah and Johor, five in Perak, three in Melaka, two each in Negri Sembilan and Sarawak, and one each in Pahang and Sabah.

So far, the country has seen a total of 22 clusters, with 593 currently active and 1,489 have ended.

Dr Noor Hisham said of the new clusters, 13 involve the workplace, six involve the community, and three came from religious activities.

Selangor’s Kg Tun Abdul Razak workplace cluster in Hulu Selangor recorded nine cases, while its Jalan Bersatu workplace cluster in Klang has 11; Meranti Jaya 2 cluster in Sepang and Petaling (23); and, Lestari Mawah religious activity cluster in Sepang and Hulu Langat (11).

Sarawak recorded the Jalan Sukma workplace cluster in Kuching and Samarahan with 10 cases, and Kg Semerah Padi community cluster in Kuching and Asajaya with 21 cases.

Johor’s Jalan Bukit Sati cluster in Johor Baru recorded seven cases, while its Jalan Satu Ayer Hitam cluster in Batu Pahat and Kluang has 13; Jalan Tengar Industri cluster in Johor Baru (8); and, Jalan Temenggung cluster in Johor Baru (27). All involve the workplace.

Johor also recorded the Jalan Harmoni Utama cluster in Johor Baru with 19 cases.

Penang’s Industri Zon Dagang Satu cluster in Seberang Prai recorded 79 cases, while its Perusahaan Maju Sepuluh cluster in Seberang Prai has 25; and, Jalan Cassia Selatan Lima cluster in Seberang Prai (39). All involve the workplace.

Pahang recorded the Industri Kg Tersang workplace cluster in Raub with 15 cases; Delima Raya community cluster in Bentong with 36 cases; and, Chat Lipis religious activity cluster in Lipis with 21 cases.

Perak’s Jalan IKA workplace cluster in Larut, Matang, Selama and Kuala Kangsar recorded 37 cases.

Kelantan recorded the Bandar Lama Machang community cluster in Machang with eight cases, and Kg Kenjong community cluster in Pasir Mas with 13 cases, while Sabah recorded the Kauran Durok community cluster in Keningau with 12 cases, and Sg Pukul cluster in Tawau with 18 cases. – The Vibes, May 26, 2021
