KUALA LUMPUR – Youth-based party Muda has called on Putrajaya to take legal action against Datuk Seri Tajuddin Abdul Rahman following his removal as Prasarana Malaysia Bhd non-executive chairman.
Muda information chief Zaidel Baharuddin in a statement today said the government must also reveal the findings of investigations into Tajuddin’s alleged interference in the Latitud 8 project at the light rail transit (LRT) Dang Wangi station.
“Has Tajuddin’s actions during his tenure (as non-executive chairman) breached any provision of the law?
“Is the action of ending the contract of the former Prasarana CEO related to the Dang Wangi project?”
Zaidel reminded the government that Tajuddin is an individual who has been accused of abusing his power in interfering with the decisions of Prasarana’s board of directors to save the project allegedly linked to his family members.
“Who else among the board members and senior officials in Prasarana are colluding (with Tajuddin) or involved in this scandal?”
The Pasir Salak MP was removed from his non-executive post effective immediately, just two days after the LRT incident.
His gaffes during a press conference near the incident site yesterday did not help matters as videos of him making light of the situation went viral.
His removal comes after a letter issued by Finance Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz was leaked. The letter was sent out to Tajuddin informing him of his removal from the post.
Zaidel said the finance minister’s move to end Tajuddin’s service in the state-owned company is a welcomed one.
“Yet, we are of the view that in the world of a competent government, he should not even be appointed to hold that post.
“Whatever it is in the current situation, we are grateful for any positive action. Since the Sheraton move, the people have indeed desired a principled and steadfast leadership.”
However, Muda stressed that Tajuddin’s removal is merely due to his actions at the press conference, which is insufficient.
“Questions must be answered, and if there are any wrongdoing, court action must be taken immediately.” – The Vibes, May 26, 2021
