KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia broke its record number of daily Covid-19 cases again today, with 7,857 infections seen over the past 24 hours.
The Health Ministry said today’s cases take the nation’s cumulative tally of infections to 541,224.
The country also saw 59 fatalities to the coronavirus, taking the death toll to 2,491.
Meanwhile, there were 4,598 recoveries, as 771 remain in intensive care, of which 392 require intubation.
The highest number of cases were logged in Selangor (2,675), followed by Sarawak (772), Kelantan (754), Kuala Lumpur (561), Johor (549), Kedah (441) Penang (365) and Negri Sembilan (353).
This was followed by Terengganu with 282 cases, Pahang (238), Melaka (234), Perak (228), Sabah (217), Labuan (170), Putrajaya (12) and Perlis (6).
All the new fatalities involved Malaysians, with the oldest being a 99-year-old woman with a history of high blood pressure. She died at Sultanah Aminah Hospital in Johor Baru.
The youngest victims were two 33-year-old women – one from Miri, Sarawak, with a history of asthma and diabetes, and the other with a history of high blood pressure, diabetes and chronic kidney disease who died at Sg Buloh Hospital.
On clusters, the ministry reported 604 active ones, including 20 detected today.
Seven of the new ones involve worksites in Selangor, Sarawak, Kelantan, Johor, Kuala Lumpur and Pahang. They logged a total of 131 infections.
For community clusters, the ministry reported eight, involving Sarawak, Kedah, Penang, Melaka and Pahang. These registered 131 cases in total.
Three clusters involving religious activities were identified in Johor, Kelantan and Sabah, with 156 cases altogether.
Only one cluster involving an education institution was detected – the Jalan Kolej Yayasan cluster in Alor Gajah, Melaka, which saw 16 cases.
