KUALA LUMPUR – Twenty-one subdistricts in Terengganu will come under the enhanced movement control order (EMCO) starting May 30 after the Health Ministry (MoH) detected widespread Covid-19 transmissions there.
Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said all the subdistricts recorded 349 positive cases in the last two weeks, with a positivity rate of 370%.
“Following risk analysis with numerous agencies in the movement control order technical committee and taking the advice of the MoH, the government has agreed to impose an EMCO from May 30 to June 12,” he said in a statement.
He said the EMCO in Kuala Terengganu involves the following subdistricts: Manir; Bukit Besar; Pengadang Buluh; Belara; Paloh; Kubang Parit; Serada, Rengas; Chendering; Bandar; Chabang Tiga; Kepong; Gelugur Kedai; Kuala Ibai; Atas Tol; Tok Jamal; Losong; Batu Buruk; Pekan Chabang Tiga; Pulau Pulau; and Gelugur Raja.
In Pahang, the EMCO will be implemented on Felda Jengka 24; Jerantut; and Kg Baru Melayu, Bentong over the same period.
“MoH has detected 10 positive cases after screenings were conducted on 56 residents in Felda Jengka 24.
“Meanwhile, MoH reported a spike in positive cases in Kg Baru Melayu, Bentong subdistrict within a short period of time when a total of 25 cases from 52 screenings were recorded, with a positivity rate of 48%,” he said.
In Johor, the EMCO will be implemented in Taman Sinar Harapan Tampoh, Johor Baru for the same period, following a positivity rate of 76.15% in the area.
“A total of 99 positive cases were detected as a result of 130 screenings conducted by MoH with highly infectious rates.
In Selangor, Taman Pertama and Taman Serendah in the Sabak Bernam district will come under EMCO from May 30 to June 12.
The senior minister said the MoH has detected a significant increase in positive cases in this locality within a short period of time when a total of 113 cases were recorded.
“MoH has conducted 1,237 screenings in both localities and 113 individuals have tested positive for the virus,” he said.
Apart from that, three localities in Tawau, Sabah – Kg Pasir Putih Blok B, PPR Taman Sri Balung and Kg Baru Pasir Putih – have been placed under EMCO from May 30 to June 12 after 37 positive cases were found in those localities.
In Melaka, the EMCO at Kg Lubok Redan which was slated to end on May 29, will be extended until June 5.
Ismail Sabri said the extension comes after the MoH detected Covid-19 transmission among residents at the locality and some samples awaiting results.
“MoH has conducted 617 screenings and of the total, 27 positive cases have been reported,” he said.
Similarly, in Sabah, the EMCO at Lorong 2, Kg Kongsi 8, Tawau has also been extended until June 12, due to virus transmission among residents.
So far, 40 out of the 295 individuals screened have tested positive for the virus.
He also said that the police arrested 574 individuals yesterday for violating various standard operating procedures.
The offences were for not wearing a mask (191 cases), failure to register details when entering premises (119), not observing physical distancing (89), cross-border travelling without permission (67), failure to comply with the MCO (53), and others (62). – The Vibes, May 28, 2021
