THE Health Ministry is investigating complaints of suspected food poisoning involving a bread product following reports shared on social media.
In a statement on Sunday, the ministry said its investigation was being conducted under the Food Act 1983 and related regulations.
It said the company responsible for manufacturing the product had been asked to explain and had reported that its internal investigation found no irregularities in the production process, changes to the recipe or breaches of food safety procedures..
However, the ministry said it had yet to establish the source of the complaints, as the information provided, including production batch numbers and expiry dates, was insufficient to trace the affected products fully.
The remaining products and their packaging had been collected from the complainant, with consent, for laboratory analysis.
The ministry stressed that the manufacturer’s internal findings could not be taken as a final determination of what caused the symptoms reported by consumers.
Laboratory results are still pending, while further inspections will be conducted at the factory to assess compliance with the Food Act 1983.
It said enforcement action would be taken if the investigation found any violations or risks to food safety.
The ministry also advised the public against speculation while investigations were ongoing.
Anyone who experiences vomiting, diarrhoea or stomach discomfort after consuming the product should seek medical attention promptly and report the incident to the nearest District Health Office.
Food safety complaints can also be submitted through the Public Complaints Management System (SiSPAA) at https://moh.spab.gov.my/ or via the Food Safety and Quality Programme’s Facebook page. - November 8, 2026
