GEORGE TOWN – Nine individuals, comprising five Malaysians and four non-citizens, were slapped with compounds during a special operation by police to curb the flouting of Covid-19 standard operating procedures (SOPs).
Out of the nine, two were fined RM5,000 each for flouting the inter-district travel ban at Bukit Jambul.
One was fined RM1,500 for not wearing a face mask and the rest, who failed to scan their MySejahtera app, were fined RM1,500 each.
Northeast district police chief Soffian Santong said police will continue to monitor the public’s compliance with the SOPs at various locations.
Two new clusters emerged in Penang yesterday which also saw two Covid-19 deaths.
The new cluster is at Paya Terbakar in Butterworth – a community cluster linked to a four-day funeral ceremony from May 15 to 18.
The index case was detected on May 24, where 22 cases were identified out of the 70 individuals screened.
The other cluster, the Jalan Bagan Ajam cluster in Butterworth, Seberang Prai Utara, emerged from a religious activity.
The index case for this cluster was detected on May 2, where 11 cases were confirmed Covid-19-positive out of the 39 screened. – The Vibes, May 30, 2021
