KUALA LUMPUR – Passersby along a section of Jalan Pudu here were caught by surprise and left unnerved when a shattered glass awning fell on the road after being hit by a rock from high above early this afternoon.
The incident caused the police to close two lanes of the road.
In a tweet, Kuala Lumpur City Hall’s (DBKL) Integrated Transport Information System (Itis) reported that a rock had fallen from the building’s rooftop before shattering the glass awning below.

According to the traffic update centre, police officers attempted to clear the rubble with some help from the public.
Itis centre told The Vibes it received a report on the incident about 2.30pm from traffic police officers patrolling the area.
The awning is believed to belong to a budget hotel located between a KK Mart outlet and a 7-Eleven store.
As of 3.10pm, Itis reported that the rubble had been cleared and all Jalan Pudu lanes are reopened.
Although large pieces of the broken structure have been cleared from the road, DBKL said it will dispatch a clean-up crew to the location later today.
