KUALA LUMPUR – Wanita PKR have identified nine more parliamentary seats to contest in the upcoming 15th general election (GE15) and achieve its target of 20 female PKR representatives in Parliament.

Its chief Fuziah Salleh said that the movement’s election committee had also taken several steps, including identifying potential candidates.

“So far, Wanita PKR representatives hold 11 parliamentary seats. We plan to retain those 11 seats in GE15 and contest nine other seats.

“The aspiration of having a minimum of 30% of policymakers being women has been bandied about for far too long and even enshrined in the party constitution. We don’t want it to be just rhetorical and a note in the history books. We want to see it implemented,” she said in her policy speech at the Wanita PKR congress in conjunction with the PKR National Congress 2020 today.

Themed “Aspire to be an Inspiration”, the Wanita PKR congress was attended by the party’s advisory council chairman Datuk Seri Wan Azizah Wan Ismail and held virtually following the implementation of movement control order 3.0.

As of April this year, she said, Wanita PKR members number 408,038, out of PKR’s total of 1,034,093. – Bernama, June 4, 2021
