KUALA TERENGGANU – Hari Raya visits and interstate travel have resulted in the Kg Matang cluster in Hulu Terengganu to expand to at least 127 cases and 725 close contacts.
State Health director Dr Nor Azimi Yunus said the spread initially infected 19 people in two families but soon involved work colleagues and mosque-goers.
She added that the active cluster has now spread to three other villages – Felcra Bukit Kepah, Kg Tengkawang and Kg Pulau Kudat.
“So far, 127 individuals have tested positive and the authorities have detected that the cluster is in its fifth generation. There are a total of 725 close contacts, not including those from targeted screenings at the villages. We are still waiting for results on 975 samples,” she said in a Facebook post today.
“The reason I’m sharing this is for it to be a lesson to all so as not to make light of SOP adherence. If this situation continues and new clusters grow like mushrooms after rain, when can we control all the clusters simultaneously? Can we curb the epid (epidemiological week) curve in two weeks?
“Self-control is very important. If we stay at home, we will not be infected or infect others. God willing, prevention is much better than cure,” she said.
She added that, during her site visit to Felcra Bukit Kepah, medical frontliners were sweating it out in their PPE while villagers had to wait for their screening. – The Vibes, June 7, 2021
