PASIR MAS – The General Operations Force 8th Battalion (GOF8) has seized 41kg of syabu and 720,000 psychotropic pills worth RM8.6 million in a raid on a house in Kg Jeram Perdah here two days ago.

Bukit Aman Internal Security and Public Order deputy director Datuk Kasuahdi Ali said the raid was conducted by GOF8 team members at 4.30pm following a four-hour surveillance after they saw a man entering the premises.

He said the team conducted a search at the house and found eight packages – four containing 41 kg of syabu and four containing 720,000 psychotropic pills – in the kitchen.

He said the drugs were smuggled from a neighbouring country, with the syabu believed to be for distribution in Kuala Lumpur, Selangor and Johor, and the pills for Pahang, Kelantan and Terengganu.

The team also seized a Proton Waja, he said at a press conference at the Pasir Mas police headquarters here today.

Kasuahdi said a 40-year-old local man, who was released from prison on June 1, has been arrested to facilitate investigation.

The suspect, who has both Malaysian and Thai citizenships, has two previous drug-related records, and has been remanded for seven days until June 14 for probe under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act.

Kasuahdi said the seizure is the biggest by GOF8 this year. A total of RM4.2 million of syabu was seized by the team in Rantau Panjang on February 22. – Bernama, June 9, 2021
