GEORGE TOWN – Police have arrested a 57-year-old businessman for driving under the influence and ramming into a roadblock at the Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu Expressway here.
Timur Laut district police chief Soffian Santong, in a statement today, said the suspect was driving dangerously and almost mowed down an officer in the 8.30pm incident yesterday.
“The policeman on duty heard a loud crash and saw a Toyota Vellfire ramming into a safety cone and dragging it to the tent set up near the roadblock. No personnel were injured in the incident.”
He said there were no passengers in the vehicle, and that the driver’s blood alcohol level was beyond the permitted limit.
The man has been remanded for two days, with checks showing he has 38 previous traffic fines, all of which were paid. – Bernama, June 10, 2021
