[UPDATED] Another dip sees Malaysia log 5,304 Covid-19 cases

KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia saw yet another dip in Covid-19 cases today, with 5,304 infections, bringing the cumulative number of cases to 657,508 in the country.

A total of 64 fresh fatalities were recorded today, bringing the death toll to 3,908.

The nation also recorded 8,183 recoveries. A total of 917 patients are in intensive care, with 452 on ventilators.

Selangor remains the state with the highest number of cases at 1,973, followed by Sarawak (544), Kuala Lumpur (462), Johor (363), Sabah (335), Negri Sembilan (331) and Kedah (301).  

States that logged fewer than 300 cases were Penang with 256, followed by Kelantan (179), Labuan (158), Melaka (145), Perak (121), Pahang (78), Terengganu (46), Putrajaya (7) and Perlis (5).

Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said of the 64 deaths today, 15 were in Selangor, 10 in Kuala Lumpur, seven in Johor and six in Kedah.

Pahang and Negri Sembilan each logged five victims; Labuan and Sarawak each have four; Sabah and Kelantan each have two; and, Perak, Penang, Melaka and Terengganu have one each.

Dr Noor Hisham said the country has registered 2,477 clusters to date, including 15 new ones today. A total of 1,711 clusters have ended, while 766 are active.

He said of the new clusters, 11 are related to workplaces, three from the community and one from a higher learning institution.

Selangor’s Industri Jalan Sijangkang Utama cluster in Kuala Langat and Klang recorded 24 cases, while its Industri Sg Chandong Sembilan cluster in Klang and Petaling has 13, and its Industri Jalan Anggerik Mokara cluster in Klang has five. All are related to workplaces.

Johor recorded the PLO Perindustrian 65 cluster in Tangkak with 27 cases; Tembikar Jalan Johor cluster in Batu Pahat (20); and, Kg Choh workplace cluster in Pontian (9). All are related to workplaces.

Sabah’s Jalan Agaseh workplace cluster in Lahad Datu recorded 15 cases, while its Lorong Satu A workplace cluster in Kota Kinabalu, Tuaran and Penampang has 10, and Kebayau community cluster in Kota Belud and Keningau has 27.

Kuala Lumpur registered the Desa Tun Razak 2 workplace cluster in Cheras with 23 cases, while Melaka logged the Industri Jalan Usaha Merlimau workplace cluster in Jasin with 31, and Kelantan logged the Industri Jalan Sepuluh workplace cluster in Kota Baru and Bachok with 18.

Sarawak’s Kg Sebandi Hilir community cluster in Lundu recorded 15 cases, while its Kg Tabuan Hj Drahman community cluster in Kuching has 24.

Finally, Kedah recorded the Dah Sintok education cluster in Kubang Pasu with 19 cases. – The Vibes, June 13, 2021
