KUALA LUMPUR – Several localities in Johor, Sabah and Sarawak will be placed under the enhanced movement control order (EMCO) from June 16 to 29, said Senior Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

He said in Johor, EMCO will be implemented at a workers’ hostel in Jalan Riviera, Tangkak, after 128 individuals tested positive for Covid-19 with a high infectivity rate as a result of screening conducted on 237 residents.

“In Sarawak, two localities in Bukit Dinding, Mukah, are involved, namely the Alat anak Mukan longhouse and Mukah Palm Oil mill.

“EMCO will be imposed after 31 cases were detected at the Alat anak Mukan longhouse, while 10 cases were detected at Mukah Palm Oil mill.”

Ismail Sabri said after a risk assessment conducted with the MCO technical committee, and upon advice from the Health Ministry, EMCO will be imposed on the localities to stop the spread of the coronavirus.

He said in Sabah, EMCO will be implemented at four localities, namely Kg Sundang Laut in Sandakan, Country Heights Apartment and Vista Minintod Apartment in Penampang, and Kg Skim Cocos in Kunak.

“Kg Sundang Laut in Sandakan will be placed under EMCO after the ministry detected 10 cases there. Community screening should be conducted for the early detection of cases so (infected individuals) can be isolated as soon as possible.

“At Country Heights Apartment, 18 cases were detected, and at Vista Minintod Apartment, 14 were detected, which is a significant climb in cases within two weeks,” he said, adding that in Kg Skim Cocos, the ministry detected 10 cases after screening 24 individuals. – Bernama, June 14, 2021
