KUALA LUMPUR – Phase one of the movement control order (MCO) 3.0 that came into force on June 1 has shown positive developments in the effort to flatten the Covid-19 infection curve, Senior Minister (Security) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said.
He said this was evident in the daily Covid-19 case numbers, which has seen a significant drop from over 9,000 daily cases in May to 5,419 new infections reported yesterday.
“The National Recovery Plan announced by Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin yesterday is a strategy to move out from the Covid-19 crisis in phases. This plan takes into account all considerations to ensure decisions taken are meant to save lives and also for the people’s survival.
“The first phase of this comprehensive MCO had to be implemented following the sudden increase in cases that was threatening the public health system. Therefore, your cooperation is needed for the success of this National Recovery Plan,” he said in a statement on the MCO and the enhanced MCO (EMCO) today.
Meanwhile, he said the National Security Council had received 266 complaints on violations of Covid-19 standard operating procedures (SOPs) from June 6 to 14 which required enforcement action by the authorities.
Ismail Sabri said that 820 people were compounded for flouting SOPs yesterday, with 20 remanded.
Separately, the senior minister said the EMCO will be implemented in several areas in Sabah, namely at Tawau’s Kg Bukit Gemuk and Kg Tg Batu Keramat, as well as Kg Landung Ayang and Taman Lavender in Kudat, and Perumahan Etara in Lahad Datu from Friday to July 1.
The tighter restrictions also apply to Kg Serikin in Kuching, Sarawak and Perumahan Awam Desa Rejang, Kuala Lumpur during the same period, he said. – Bernama, June 16, 2021
