KUALA LUMPUR – Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Khairy Jamaluddin announced that national vaccination centres will be open for walk-in jabs once those registered for vaccination have received their respective appointments.
Reiterating his earlier claims, Khairy expressed confidence that the nation can achieve its 80% target by the end of the year or sooner with this approach..
The Rembau MP also confirmed that the government is discussing the schedule for vaccine deliveries with Chinese producers CanSino Biologics, which may begin next month.
Touching on the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme in Kelantan, Khairy said the government has plans to open more centres, especially in Kelantan.
“We are planning to open five more centres in Bachok, Kota Baru, Pasir Mas, and Kuala Krai.
“We will also be adding private clinics and hospitals as centres. With these capacities, if the vaccines arrive on schedule, we can vaccinate the adult population of Kelantan by October," Khairy said in a press conference today.
He added, following discussions with Kelantan's health director-general, that an outreach programme will be held to educate potential vaccine recipients in Kelantan.
“We are not too worried about low registration numbers. Our strategy is to conduct mobile outreach. We will go in and give the jabs,” he added. – The Vibes, June 17, 2021
