KUANTAN – The Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry will propose that stores selling items related to home-based teaching and learning be allowed to operate during the Covid-19 lockdown.
Deputy Minister Datuk Rosol Wahid said the suggestion will be forwarded to the National Security Council for consideration, and that among the premises that should be allowed to open, subject to standard operating procedures, are those selling books and stationery, as well as shops that offer printing services.
“We have received complaints from parents that it is difficult to buy stationery and other items, and to print materials, for their children’s assignments,” he told reporters here today.
“Some do not have printers at home, or they have run out of ink.”
He said he is optimistic that the suggestion will be given serious consideration.
On vegetables being potentially more expensive following the imposition of the enhanced movement control order (EMCO) on several areas in Cameron Highlands, Rosol said this should not happen as the government has allowed the agricultural sector and its supply chain to continue operating.
He said his ministry will discuss with the Agriculture and Food Industries Ministry on ensuring vegetable suppliers are not affected by the June 14-27 EMCO imposed on Camerons agricultural areas totalling 670ha. – Bernama, June 17, 2021
