KUALA LUMPUR – Employers in the manufacturing sector will be immediately issued compounds if they are found to be in breach of movement control order (MCO) standard operating procedures, said Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin today.
After conducting SOP-compliance monitoring at several factories and industrial areas in the Klang Valley, the home minister told the press that factory clusters are among the biggest contributors to Malaysia’s Covid-19 surge.
“If it continues like this, we will not be able to bring daily infections below 5,000.
“I fear that if the manufacturing sector does not comply with the SOPs, we will not be able to flatten the Covid-19 curve. As such, I urge all employers to comply with the SOPs.”
Today is the last day that employers in the sector are first given a warning for flouting the rules, he said.
“No more excuses. And, I urge the employers that have been given permission to operate (during the MCO) to look again at the approval granted by the International Trade and Industry Ministry (Miti).
“Some have been given approval from Miti, but they still flout the SOPs. For example, a quarrying company in Kajang today had more than 60% of its workers on the premises.”
He said over 40 factories nationwide have been compounded for breaching the SOPs since June 1.
“Most of the factories that were compounded have not reopened. I want employers to understand that breaking the Covid-19 chain is a joint responsibility.” – Bernama, June 17, 2021
