KUANTAN – About 7,000 hens died in a fire at a breeding centre owned by LKPP Goldkist in Batu 8, Jalan Kuantan-Segamat here this morning.
Employee Mohd Afendi Kamarulzaman, 33, said security guards on duty noticed flames engulfing one of the facility’s 24 coops about 6am.
“Firefighters arrived at the location at 6.30am. They managed to save 3,000 chickens from the coop on fire, and prevented the flames from spreading,” he told Bernama.
It is understood to be the second fire at the farm since it started operations 20 years ago. The previous blaze involved only empty coops.
Pahang Fire and Rescue Department assistant director (operations) Ismail Abdul Ghani said two fire engines with 16 personnel were deployed to the scene.
The blaze was brought under control within half an hour, and its cause is being investigated. – Bernama, June 19, 2021
