M’sian dental assistant among Singapore’s 11 new Covid-19 cases

SINGAPORE – A Malaysian woman who works as a dental assistant in Singapore is among its 11 new Covid-19 cases reported yesterday, said the Health Ministry.

Labelled Case No. 64,347, the 22-year-old received her first dose of the coronavirus vaccine on May 23 and the second on June 13, said the ministry in its report last night.

It said she donned full personal protective equipment – N95 mask, a face shield, goggles, a gown and gloves – while at work.

“She is asymptomatic. The case was detected when she was tested for Covid-19 on June 19 as part of our community surveillance screening for those working in the Redhill Close area.”

The woman is employed at the Q&M Dental Surgery branch at the Redhill mass rapid transit station.

“Her test result returned positive on the same day. Her serology test result is pending,” said the ministry.

The republic has logged a total of 62,414 infections, with 37 clusters still active.

There are 142 coronavirus patients in hospital, most of whom are in stable condition or improving. One is in critical condition, and five require oxygen.

Singapore has lost 34 lives to the disease. – Bernama, June 21, 2021
