KUALA LUMPUR – Taxi and e-hailing drivers in Peninsula Malaysia can now apply for interstate and inter-district travel permits via the Transport Ministry as they are classified as essential service providers.
However, they can only travel across state and district lines provided their passengers have obtained approvals according to the movement control order standard operating procedures.
Taxi drivers will have to obtain their letters via the SMILE system while e-hailing companies will be issuing relevant letters to their drivers.
The ministry said Sabah and Sarawak’s Disaster Management Committees are allowed to suggest SOPs that are suitable for the respective state with agreement from the relevant health directors.
It added that this is in line with the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (Measures within the Infected Local Areas) (No. 3) Regulations 2021.
Earlier today, the Sabah government gave its nod for taxis, e-hailing drivers and food delivery riders to cross between the Kota Kinabalu, Penampang and Putatan districts.
The decision to allow inter-district travel in these areas was made by the Sabah Covid-19 Disaster Management Committee yesterday. – The Vibes, June 23, 2021
