THE special financial assistance of RM1,000 for taxi and rental car drivers is not limited to Melaka, but extends to this group nationwide.
Transport Minister Anthony Loke stated that rumours that the aid is being distributed only in Melaka in light of the upcoming State Election are inaccurate.
According to him, the presentation of this assistance is being carried out in stages across several states as part of the government’s efforts to help alleviate the burden faced by this group.
“I would like to clarify some statements circulating that question why this aid is being provided only in Melaka. This assistance is for all taxi drivers nationwide, not just those in Melaka,” he said.
He was speaking to reporters after officiating at the Special Financial Assistance presentation ceremony for taxis, rental cars and school bus drivers at the CMI Complex Auditorium in Ayer Keroh, today.
A total of 283 taxi and rental car drivers received contribution vouchers worth RM1,000 each at the event today.
Loke said that the RM1,000 aid would be provided to drivers who meet the criteria, which include being part of a legitimate drivers' association and holding a driver’s card verified by the Land Public Transport Agency (APAD).
He added that drivers who were unable to attend the distribution ceremony would receive the payment via a direct transfer to their respective bank accounts.
“We hope to expedite this payment process within the next one to two weeks.
“Starting today, the aid will be credited to the bank accounts of approximately 12,000 recipients, and they are expected to receive the funds within two to three days,” he said. – October 26, 2026
