KUALA LUMPUR – A cooking oil wholesaler’s premises in Bandar Tun Razak here have been raided on suspicion of misappropriating an estimated 1.6 million kilogrammes of the product since April.
Kuala Lumpur Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry chief enforcement officer Nurul Syarina Md Anuar said the operation was carried out at noon yesterday, following reports lodged and information received on the matter.
She said the licensed premises have been operating since March, and obtained cooking oil from manufacturers and packers in the city, Selangor, Perak and Pahang.
The wholesaler is believed to have been supplying subsidised cooking oil to an unlicensed company in Johor Baru.
“It has been selling an estimated 1.6 million kilogrammes of cooking oil, with a subsidy value of RM960,000, since April,” Nurul Syarina told a press conference here today.
She said the ministry has recorded the statement of the premises’ 40-year-old local owner and seized several documents.
The cooking oil is believed to have been exported, causing a supply shortage in the domestic market, she said.
The case is being investigated under Regulation 9(2) of the Control of Supplies Regulations 1974 for supplying controlled items, namely cooking oil, to unlicensed parties. – Bernama, June 25, 2021
