2 Kedah cops nabbed over theft of RM400,000 freed on court order

SG PETANI – Two policemen arrested for allegedly stealing a safe containing RM400,000 in cash from the office of a logistics company on June 23 were released on Monday.

Kedah police chief Datuk Kamarul Zaman Mamat said the officers, with the rank of corporal, are among 10 people arrested in the case, and that they were freed on the court’s order.

“About 92% of the money has been recovered following several raids and arrests. We’re still tracking down the rest,” he told reporters after standard operating procedure compliance checks at factories here yesterday.

“The other eight suspects have been remanded until July 1. Their remand orders will probably be extended to facilitate investigations.”

In the 1.30am incident, a group of men broke into the company’s office and fled with the safe.

Police then detained 10 suspects, including three cops, around Alor Star. – Bernama, June 30, 2021
