KUALA LUMPUR – Penang will be the sixth state to enter Phase 2 of the National Recovery Plan beginning Wednesday, as decided by the National Security Council (NSC).
Senior Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said this transition takes into account the three main indicators, namely that the average daily infection rate is at 12.2 per 100,000 cases for the past seven days, usage of intensive care unit beds is at a moderate level, and capacity-to-respond evaluation is at an adequate level.
“The vaccination rate for two doses for the adult population is also above 10%, at 10.1%,” he said in a statement today.
He said states that have moved into Phase 2 must continue to protect their communities from Covid-19 and increase their performances so they may transition to the next phase.
“This will aid the recovery of the economic and social sectors at these states.”
Earlier, Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, who continues to work despite being in hospital, had alluded to more states having the potential to enter Phase 2.
The prime minister in a Facebook post today said he chaired an online NSC meeting from the hospital.
“Alhamdulillah, there are a few states that show good development and potential to meet the three threshold indicators, soon joining the five states already in Phase 2.
“I hope the situation in our country will be under control and more people will be vaccinated in the near future, with Malaysia receiving more vaccine supplies this month.”
Perlis, Perak, Pahang, Kelantan and Terengganu are already in Phase 2. – The Vibes, July 5, 2021
