BUKIT MERTAJAM – Penangites are told to strictly heed health and safety standard operating procedures if they want to move into Phase 3 of the National Recovery Plan (NRP) soon.
Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said when this happens, the state’s economy can open up even more, increasing job opportunities.
“It is crucial to abide by the SOPs to curb the spread of Covid-19 in the state.
“We urge everyone to follow the SOPs so that we can maintain Phase 2 status. Our next aim is to move into Phase 3,” he said after visiting the Taman Nagasari housing estate here.
Penang is the sixth state to enter Phase 2 of NRP.
The state could see up to 15% of its population fully vaccinated this week as its ramps up the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme.
At present, 11% of its population has received both vaccine doses.
“It is possible for us to move into Phase 3 if everyone follows the SOPs and works together with the state government to flatten the infection curve,” said Chow.
He said Taman Nagasari, which is under the enhanced movement control order until July 17, has seen 15 coronavirus cases out of 140 residents tested. – The Vibes, July 7, 2021
