KOTA BARU – A senior police officer has been remanded for four days for allegedly soliciting a RM200,000 bribe from a drug-dealing couple.
It is understood that the 48-year-old cop was arrested by the Kelantan Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission here at 10am yesterday.
The remand order was issued by magistrate Rozaidi Yaacob at the Kota Baru magistrates’ court.
State MACC director Rosli Husain confirmed the arrest.
He said the suspect is believed to have solicited the bribe three months ago as an inducement to not act on a drug case.
“The officer was purportedly given RM100,000 recently.
“MACC is still investigating the case, and we are not ruling out the possibility that several other individuals are also involved.”
He said the case is the largest in terms of value uncovered by the state MACC this year.
It is being investigated under Section 17A of the MACC Act 2009. – Bernama, July 9, 2021
