KOTA KINABALU – Warisan has categorically denied that it will work with Perikatan Nasional (PN) as implied in a recent article by the Sarawak Report.
In a brief statement, Warisan president Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal said the report which was published on July 12 was erroneous.
The article had stated that two-time prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad will join PN, while implying that Warisan will follow suit.
Dr Mahathir, the report stated, will be appointed to lead the recovery of Malaysia from the Covid-19 pandemic and in return his newly-registered party, Pejuang plus Warisan, will support PN.
Politically, Shafie was seen as supportive of Dr Mahathir during his time as Bersatu chairman and Pakatan Harapan leader, with both men previously being Umno members.
The 96-year-old had left the party after stepping down as prime minister in March last year.
Warisan currently has eight MPs, including Shafie who is Semporna MP, Kota Belud MP, Isnaraissah Munirah Majilis, Sepanggar MP Datuk Mohd Azis Jamman, Papar MP Ahmad Hassan, Lahad Datu MP Datuk Mohamaddin Ketapi, Kalabakan MP Ma’mun Sulaiman, Labuan MP Datuk Rozman Isli and Penampang MP Datuk Darell Leiking.
While the party’s Batu Sapi MP, Datuk Liew Vui Keong passed away in October, last year, following a bout of pneumonia, leaving the seat vacant.
The report surfaced amid questions on the legitimacy of Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s administration following Umno’s decision to withdraw its support from the coalition. – The Vibes, July 13, 2021
