JELI – An Indonesian woman was today sentenced to 12 months in prison by the magistrates’ court here for using a citizen’s MyKad to get vaccinated against Covid-19.

Magistrate Mohamad Nasrudin Mohamed handed down the sentence to Yanik Setia Pratiwi, 36, after she pleaded guilty to committing the offence at a community rehabilitation centre here on June 13 and July 4.

She was charged with two counts of using an identity document belonging to Nor Athirah Zaiki, 26, to obtain two Covid-19 shots under Regulation 25(1)(c) of the National Registration Act 1990, which provides for three years’ imprisonment, or a fine of up to RM20,000, or both, upon conviction.

For each count, the court imposed a fine of RM2,000 in default of six months behind bars. Yanik failed to pay the fine.

At the same court, the accused’s husband Amiruzaman Ab Rahmad, 59, a Malaysian, was fined RM2,000 in default of six months’ jail on each count of abetting his wife in committing the said offence on the same dates. He paid the fine.

The couple’s actions were uncovered when Nor Athirah, who is from Perak, lodged a police report on July 7 after finding out that she was listed on MySejahtera as having completed the two-dose Sinovac regimen despite not having been vaccinated.
